Trade Pile 6: Take These Dusty Cards

Well it's been a while since I last added to the trade pile--about six months--so you'll have to excuse the dust these cards gathered in between posts. For the first time in several years, my blog will feature a non-baseball card, this time of former Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck.

Remember, if you want to claim the Trade Pile, comment on this post (and email me your address) and let me know what you plan to send my way from my want lists. I'm also always on the lookout for cards I don't own of my player collections. All you need to send is a single card I need and the entire stack is yours.

Trade Pile 6: #content

Work has been a bear the last week or so, so I'm a bit behind on posting. Seems like an appropriate time to add to the Trade Pile. #content

Trade Pile 6: Adding On and Paging Contest Winners

I'm adding to the trade pile and also paging a few contest winners. I still need to ship out six packages, but I need addresses from all but one of you. (Gavin, I've got your Mookie Betts card set aside, and I'm waiting on soem shipping materials to arrive to my apartment before I ship.) Can the following folks reach out to me via email (alexmarkle05@gmail.com) with their mailing address? Peter S., Bret Alan, Comatoad, Adam K., and Swing and a Pop Up.

Trade Pile 5: It's a Bunt

Three out of the first four trade piles were claimed on the same day they were posted. I suppose I'm starting these piles with cards that are too good to turn down. Let's see if that's the case today as we begin trade pile number five.

Remember, if you want to claim the Trade Pile, comment on this post (and email me your address) and let me know what you plan to send my way from my want lists. Trade Pile 4: Let's Get It Started

It's been an busy few days here, as I've been packing up contest winnings, sending those out along with some PWEs, and scanning cards for future posts. I've recieved several care packages over the last couple of weeks which will get their own posts soon (thanks to those who've kept my mail person busy), though I'll likely be posting about some fantastic new cards I got for my birthday over the weekend first--I'm thrilled to share those.

In the meantime, let's get a new trade pile started! The last two piles were claimed on the first post, so let's see if I can get a larger trade pile going this time around.

There's a Haircut You Can Set Your Watch To

As my vintage collection has grown, so has my knowledge of the Dodgers from years past--or at least I thought. Sometimes I encounter a card that has me thinking, "Who the hell is this guy?"

Case in point. Who the hell is Stan Williams? This doesn't even look like a Dodgers baseball card. In fact, when I first saw this card fall out of an envelope from Gavin over at Baseball Card Breakdown, my first thought was of Johnny Unitas thanks to a clip from the Simpsons I've seen at least eleventy hundred times.

Turns out Mr. Williams here had a decent fourteen-year career as a pitcher for six different ball clubs, including the Dodgers. Good for him.

My recognition skills aren't any better if you put a team card in front of me, especially if it's vintage.  I recognize maybe two or three dudes from this photo: Don Sutton, Don Drysdale, and maybe Walt Alston? Manny Mota is probably somewhere in this mix, too?

Who knows.

And it doesn't matter if it's vintage! I have a terrible time identifying just about anyone from most team cards.

Tommy Lasorda is named at the top right, taking away an easy target for me, but any one else I name from this card is strictly from my own knowledge of the early-80s Dodgers--the photo provides almost nothing other than a few jersey numbers. I can make out Baker, Garvey, Cey, and Lopes. I assume Russell has got to be in this mix, too, but I couldn't pick him out of a lineup no matter how clear the photo is. (I Googled him as I wrote this, and he's a handsome fellow, though Grampa Simpson might have something to say about those sideburns.)

Gavin also sent me a great mix of cards from the 1972 set, pushing me to just about the halfway point of completion. And hey, I recognize some of these dudes! Willie Davis. Maury Wills. Claude Osteen. These are the names and faces I recognize. Heck, Maury Wills is one of the first Dodgers I put to memory, though I don't know why. I knew he stole a lot of bases, and I always wondered who would win in a foot race: Maury Wills or Dave Roberts.

Gavin sent these cards my way after he claimed the very first Trade Pile back in June--thanks for that! I'm always thrilled to add more Dodgers to my binders, especially so if it's vintage.

Just don't expect me to know who the hell anyone is.

Trade Pile 3: Rocket Man

The first Trade Pile had six entries in the stack and the second Trade Pile lasted just one entry before it was claimed. The third Trade Pile begins today and I imagine it won't last too long.

Thanks to all who have entered my contest so far. There are currently 46 total entries, and I'll continue to plug it here. I'll likely be adding a prize or two to the trade pool later this week.

Remember, if you want to claim the Trade Pile, comment on this post (or email me) and let me know what you plan to send my way from my want lists. All you need to send is a single card I need and the entire stack is yours. I've updated my want lists, so there's an even greater chance you have something I want!

Trade Pile 2: Some More Leftovers and a Contest Reminder

If you haven't heard, I'm running a contest with tons of awesome prizes. The contest runs through June, but you should just drop what you're doing and head over there now. You can check out the contest post here. Entering is as easy as leaving a comment.

The first trade pile was claimed last week, so it's time for trade pile number two. What better place to begin than where the last pile ended? Starting off this trade pile is a four card lot of gold-bordered minis from 2019 A&G.

Remember, if you want to claim the Trade Pile, comment on this post (or email me) and let me know what you plan to send my way from my want lists. All you need to send is a single card I need and the entire stack is yours. I've updated my want lists, so there's an even greater chance you have something I want!

Trade Pile 1: Hot Box Leftovers

When I first had to step away from the blog and collecting back in 2015, close to 90% of my cards (and I had a lot) were given to Goodwill (or some other charity store I don't remember). I managed to send out a ton of care packages at this time, and I saved my Dodgers and binders, but most of my "inventory" was wiped out.

It's taken a few years of slow and steady collecting, but I've finally reached the point where I have a decent-sized inventory of cards that don't reaaly fit into my collection. This includes a lot of A&G, Fire, Stadium Club, Flagship, and other misc. sets from 2017 to 2020. And with space still a premium here in my New Jersey apartment, it's about time I get some of these cards out to folks who will appreciate them. If you have a need list from any of the sets mentioned above, feel free to send me the link and I'll comb through it to see what I might be able to send your way.

In advance of 2020 A&G, I figured now is as good a time as ever to move on from some of the gold bordered cards I pulled from my hot A&G box last year. Today, I'm adding six new cards to the trade pile--a collection of legendary hurlers and sluggers. And because the entire box featured gold border base cards, I have a ton I'm willing to move. Let me know if you're looking for a specific player/team/etc.
Remember, if you want to claim the Trade Pile, comment on this post (or email me) and let me know what you plan to send my way from my want lists. All you need to send is a single card I need and the entire stack is yours.

Note: I'm working to update the blog's design over the next few days, so there may be some weird changes to the layout, colors, etc. Hopefully the changes can get implmente quickly but it's a work in progress.

Trade Pile 1: Another Card Joins the Pile

I've been travelling for the last week, so the blog has been quiet. While I was away, I stopped at two Wal-Marts, two Targets, and a Walgreens but was unable to locate any cards. I couldn't even find the card aisles at the Wal-Marts I was at in Pennsylvania. Ah well, I suppose I'll focus my posts on trades and online purchases. Today, however, I add another card to the trade pile.

Trade Pile #1: Nick Swisher Joins the Stack

File this under something I completey missed, but apparently I made my 500th post on this blog over the weeked. More impressive, I've posted on the blog for four consecutive days for the first time since December/January 2014-2015.

Annyway, I'm tossing another card onto the Trade Pile today. Welcome to the club, Nick Swisher. Trade Pile #1: Mancini Leading Things Off

While I slowly get back to blogging on the regular, I thought I'd start up a new feature that I've been meaning to for years--the Trade Pile. The concept isn't new, as several other bloggers have been doing this (or something similar) for years. Essentially, I'll occasionally add a card or two to my trade pile and anyone can claim it by sending me a card from one of my want lists. Simple as that.

If you want to claim the Trade Pile, comment on this post (or email me) and let me know what you plan to send my way from my want lists. I'm always happy to make a bigger swap at the same time.
