Contests and Other Blog Things

I had a large post planned for tonight, but I decided to get some other card related things done. Nothing too exciting, mainly sorting and and moving boxes around, but my time has been used for good.

I realized I was a little behind getting some trade packages out. I already have 7 packages ready to ship on Friday, but I still have a few to get to. If we have talked trade over the past week or two, don't worry. Your cards are packed up and ready to be shipped to their new home.

Speaking of contests, I am still running mine. I started out this contest trying to raise awareness for other great bloggers who don't get as much traffic as some of the bigger blogs. After a couple of weeks, we are close to completing my first blogger contest.

Dodger Penguin currently sits at 46 followers, only 4 away from my goal of 50. To enter, all you need to do is follow him and leave a comment when you do. Trade with A Swing and a Hit: Fulfilling my NFL Needs

I completed my first official trade with Nathan from A Swing and a Hit. Nathan and I have swapped cards in the past, but nothing during the time in which I've had this blog. Nathan runs A Swing and a Hit, which is an awesome blog name by the way, though he hasn't updated it in a while. Like it does with a lot of us, life gets in the way. He told me he plans on starting again soon, so watch out blogosphere. 

This trade was primarily football based, but I did get a few Dodgers. 

Nope, your not looking at the same card. Topps decided to go with a nearly identical photo for the Dodgers lefties though. Both cards will be inserted into their respective PC's, and I hope to get a second set for my mini set from Update Series. 

Here a few awesome Colts cards of T.Y Hitlon, Andrew Luck, and Reggie Wayne. I don't like football cards as much as baseball cards, but that's probably because I don't like football as much as I like baseball.

I do like the minis that are in a few of the football products though. I believe this comes from the standard Topps football. 

I was also able to add to my Andrew Luck collection, though the card on the right is a little weird. Speaking of Luck.....

....Denver Broncos QB, Peyton Manning could have used some after the Broncos disappointing Super Bowl performance on Sunday. His defense didn't do much to help him out, but best of luck to him next year. 

Nathan also threw in some other Colts cards that I never got around to scanning, including some cool Marvin Harrison cardboard. In addition to helping my Colts needs, he helped out my cousins needs for Dolphins cards, specifically Ryan Tannehill. 

I did get another Dodger card in the trade, though I haven't show it yet. It will be part of my inaugural post about a new page on the site. If I ever sit down and make it.

Trade with Foul Bunt: PC, Set, and TTSP Needs

I completed my second trade with William of Foul bunt today. I received an unexpected package from William yesterday, it was only unexpected because I completely forgot about it. I will be sending some cards your way this week William. 

William started out the trade package with some much needed cards for my Topps Team Set Project. He sent primarily cards from 1987 and 1996, and I am very close to finishing off those sets. 

He also sent some set needs from 2013 Bowman Chrome, Flagship, and Topps Heritage. 

The best card of the bunch was this 1996 Topps Shawn Green. I love adding new Green cards, and the Rookie Cup is a nice touch. I was surprised I didn't have this one yet, but considering my Green PC consists of only 34 cards, I don't have a lot of his cardboard.

William also added this new Kemp card, another one I was surprised to have just added to my Kemp PC. I could tell what game Kemp's picture cam from without even reading the card. Kemp hit a walk-off homerun against the Nationals to spoil Bryce Harper's debut back in 2012. It was one of the last "good" memories a lot of Dodger fans have of Kemp considering the barrage of injuries that have plagued him since that time. Hopefully the Bison will be 100% in 2014.

Finally, William tossed in a new Ethier for me, something I need to work on more. I'll be uploading a new "Goal" page soon, if I ever get time away from school and work. My first order of business is to get an auto from all of my PC's, primary and secondary. I guess Andre is on the clock.

Trade Bait Tuesday

I've been going through my cards and need to get more organized. I have a ton of cards I'd love to trade, but keeping track of them is difficult sometimes. So, I have decided to create Trade Bait Tuesday. I will post a scan with a page full of cards for trade. If you are interested in any of the cards just let me know in the comment section. Expect this every Tuesday and some Thursdays. 

Adrian! Adrian!

I hope you read that like Rocky. I have never seen any of the Rocky movies before, but I do know that scene. Weird.

I picked up two new Adrian's in the past week or so, though I cannot remember if they were part of trades or if I bought them. I guess the sheer amount of cards I've began to deal with have taken a toll on the memory.

This is one of my favorite inserts to come from 2013. The diecut job on these particular cards is crazy, but they make good looking cards. The blue outlining really makes this card pop to me. In addition to this Adrian, I have the Kemp diecut as well, though they are the only two Dodgers featured in the set.

This is another new addition for me. Topps made sure to use they same picture so that they wouldn't have too much work to do. They seem to use the same picture for multiple products, something I hope is changed this year. Variety isn't a bad thing Topps! 

My Only Signed Ball: Steve Sax

As a Dodger fan, living in Fresno is tough. We are San Francisco Giants territory, and just about everyone in this town likes the Giants. Or they just jumped on the bandwagon in 2010. I like that better.

Fresno is home to the Giants AAA affiliate, the Fresno Grizzlies. If that doesn't make it worse, I don't know what could. I don't get to drive down to LA for Dodger games that often, but I do get to make numerous trips a year to the downtown stadium of the Grizzlies. The stadium is pretty new, built in 2002, and seats 12,500. It is the only minor league park I've ever been to, and from photos looks to be one of the nicest ones around. It does have a pool in the outfield though, yuckkk! 

What is nice though, is that they do not read what they put up on their scoreboard. Last season my mom won a prize pack for a game at the stadium. Included were 4 game tickets, free food, a coupon book for the  store, and a free message on the scoreboard. They put up these messages during the 7th inning stretch, and most times the PA guy reads them out loud. I convinced my mom to let me pick out the scoreboard message. When the 7th inning came around, 99% of the stadium was booing when "Let's Go Dodgers! Giants Suck!" appeared on the scoreboard. The PA announcer caught what it said before he read it, but the message popping up on the scoreboard was good enough for me. I wish I took a picture.

A few years back I went to a game with my Dad. We don't typically pay attention to the promotions they run because they usually hand out cheesy Giants gear. When we showed up to the game however, we were in for a treat. Steve Sax was in the concourse signing autographs. 

My dad went to the team store and came out with a Grizzlies baseball, which unfortunately was all they had. I walked up to Mr. Sax and had him sign the ball. The pictures were on my old computer before it crashed last year, so I don't have the picture we took together, but I do have the ball.

The Grizzlies logo takes away from the auto, but I was still happy to get the ball signed. If I would have known better then, I would have had him inscribe something. Next time I guess. The signature is a little faded, but it is the only autographed ball in my collection. When the budget increases in the future, and I have some more room to store my stuff, I'll be adding signed baseballs as often as possible. 

Chavez Ravining Fantasy Baseball

With the Seattle Seahawks winning their first ever Super Bowl yesterday, football is officially over for the next 6 months or so. That means baseball, the sport we all love, is back. Pitchers and catchers report in a few days and I am in a baseball mood once again. Not that I'm ever out of a baseball mood. 

This also means Fantasy Baseball will be back soon. An annual reminder that I know more about baseball then my friends and family. Not to brag or anything, but....League Champion five years running! 

Because I now run a blog, I am able to be in contact with other baseball loving people out there. Which is why I'm starting a Fantasy Baseball League. 

Details are a bit sketchy, as they usually are when doing something first introduced, but as we get closer to the season things will start to get a bit clearer. Here's what I do know:

Size of the League
I'm looking to make this a 15 team league. Of course depending on the popularity, this number may increase or decrease a couple of teams. I don't want to have too many teams, but I don't want to have less than 10.

League Type
The league will be played at ESPN, and will be of the rotisserie or points based style of play. I know some people live and die by Yahoo, or head to head matchups, but I've never played at Yahoo and don't plan on it. ESPN has treated me well so far, and it is a system I'm familiar with. 

Cost to Enter
This will be completely free to play. Unless we can all agree on some type of card(s) to enter as a pot, this will be completely free for all of the participants.

Prizes
Of course there will be prizes. Right now, I am not quite sure what those prizes will be, or if they are given out on a weekly basis or at the end of the season, but expect some cards to be switching hands this year. 

As you can see, there is still quite a bit to figure out. Namely, the prize system. I was hoping I could get the people who decide to play to all enter a card into a pot that the winner will receive at the end of the year, but we will figure that stuff out later. 

Right now, I would just like to gauge the interest in the fantasy league . If you have any interest at all just leave a comment. I'm also looking for suggestions. If you have any ideas just let me know in the comments. 

Trades with Play at the Plate and One Man's Junk (Wax): Picking up Some New PC and Project Cards

I received two packages from fellow bloggers this week, both filled with trade related goodies. In my haste to sort and organize things this week, I accidentally filed away the awesome cards sent to me by Jeff of One Man's Junk (Wax). He sent me 51 cards to help me complete my Topps Team Set Project. I'm having a tough time remembering what he sent exactly, but I do know he finished my 1986 set, and had some great early 80's cards. Thanks again Jeff!

The other package came from Brian over at Play at the Plate. He requested some Topps Olympics cards, and I had a couple blaster boxes worth to send his way. He sent a ton of set needs my way, along with some awesome new PC cards.

The first being this great Shawn Green relic from 2003 Fleer. It is an awesome looking card, especially with the jersey swatch placed as a planet. I have been trying to increase my Green collection a bit in the past few weeks, and with an eBay win a few days ago I was able to add another beauty to the collection. More on that later this week.

These were also new additions to my Harper PC. I was looking to add these a few months ago before I started the blog, but didn't pull the trigger. I'm glad to have them now, because they look great in person. They come from a retail exclusive box of 2011 Bowman Chrome, which seems a little unusual to me. I guess Topps wanted to cash in on the Harper mania that was sweeping baseball a couple of years ago. 

I already had this card, but after taking a look at my Beltre PC page, I realized I didn't have it updated with all the parallels I had. Either way, I'm happy to add this card to the collection. I'll never have too many Beltre cards. Hopefully I can pick up an affordable auto next. 

Brian also threw this awesome card in the package. I already had this one as well, but it is one of my favorite cards from 2013. I love how Ryu rocks the blue glove, something many Dodgers don't do. This is a phenomenal look, especially on his Allen and Ginter's card. Perhaps I should do a Top 10 of my favorite Dodgers cards from 2013?

The biggest surprise of the package was this 1960 Topps Ron Fairly card. I've never heard of Ron Fairly before, though I don't have a ton of knowledge on the earlier Dodgers. This is card number two of the 1960 Topps team set for me, a list I still need to make and upload. I am really digging these vintage cards I have been receiving in trades. I haven't looked into buying any online so I don't know how much these older cards would sell for, but I do feel like I should make my end of the trade more enticing in the future.

Another Day, Another Kemp

Nothing too exciting today.I'm just throwing a new card up here quickly, while I prepare to go watch the Broncos win the Super Bowl. Woooo! Peyton Manning!

I picked this card up from a friend, along with a ton of other cards for a few bucks. I thought I had this already, but it is a new addition to the Kemp PC which is now sitting at 95 cards. Still looking to get my first Kemp auto of the year, but I'll settle for awesome looking base cards for now.
