To be honest, I didn't think this whole blogging thing would last. I had started numerous blogs over the years, all with varying lifespans. I always wanted to write about the Dodgers, but could never find a reason to post consistently. And then I started getting back into cards.
I started to pick up packs here and there and even a card on eBay from time to time. I posted some of my favorites here on the blog in posts I called 'Card of the Day'. Eventually, I moved on from that and started writing more about the cards, rather than just posting a picture of them with a line or two of how much it cost me. Pretty soon I was pumping out posts daily, running contests, and reading other blogs whenever I had a free moment. But, as it happens to most of us, life got in the way, and now I am stepping back from the hobby.
I'm not sure how long my sabbatical will last. I imagine I won't collect again until at least after college, so like another 4-5 years. And even then, who knows if the desire wills till be there. Hopefully by that time, however, I'll be making so much money, I can just flat out buy Topps (yea, not gonna happen).
I'll still be checking out blogs from time to time, and I may even pick up a card or two over the next few years, but my time blogging is done.

That said, I'd just like to thank a few people in this community that have been especially kind to me. Greg, Matthew, Nick, Austin, Andrew, and William, you guys are all exceptionally awesome, and I wish you nothing but the best with your collections going forward.
Thanks again everyone!
Thanks again everyone!
Sad to see you leave the community but I fully understand that life gets in the "way" sometimes. I myself was out of the hobby from 2001 till 2013 so I have been there done that. At times I "bore" of posting cards daily but I have gotten back more into the movie reviews and various other things to at least break up the card posts. I will still be here in 4-5 years (God willing) if and when you come back but till then thank you for all the good talks and the trades of the past year plus and when you head down here to LA lets catch a game together again. God Speed in your adventures
ReplyDeleteGood luck Alex!
ReplyDeleteBummer to hear it. I still got an auto of the other Ryan Braun meaning to send you (get in touch if you still want it). But yeah, have a happy life, best of luck in school, and hope to see you around the blogosphere again someday!
ReplyDeleteSo much for our first trade that never left the drawing board.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes.
Good luck Alex. Best wishes on your future endeavors.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you!
ReplyDeleteWe'll be here happily awaiting your return, my friend. Until then, keep in touch. You're a hell of a guy, and I'm honored to be able to call you a friend.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Alex -- I always enjoyed reading your blog. Don't be gone long!
ReplyDeleteYo Dude, now who am I going to send these Either, Kemp, and Puig cards too. JK... I plan on keeping the Puigs. After the initial "school rush" and you find yourself needing a break, don't forget to read a blog or two, should come as a "break" from the new life your entering. Take care, enjoy, and remember to have fun (just the right kind though)!
ReplyDeleteSay it ain't so!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to see you go Alex. But I understand. Recently I've been having trouble finding the time or motivation to blog. And this is a hobby that can get very expensive in a hurry if you let it. I assume you'll still be doing the fantasy baseball league at least? And if I come by any cool Dodgers stuff you'll still be the first person I contact.
We'll miss you bud!
ReplyDeleteIt's been great reading your blog. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAlex, it's been a true pleasure. Sad to see you go. DodgerPenguin will now be cleaning up on all of my Dodgers cards full time!
ReplyDeleteBest lof luck with everything in the future. Hopefully your 4-5 year prediction is an overestimation!
Good luck! I know in my case collecting kind of stopped in college and early-20s, then picked up again after that.
ReplyDeleteI second what everyone has said. Good luck with your endeavors, and we'll all be happy to see your return if you're able to make it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't collect in college, got a real job, now i'm back, its much easier to collect when you have some money. We all like a good deal but its fun to drop 100 bucks on a really cool card once in a while. Have fun in college and we'll trade when you get back!
ReplyDeleteAll the best!
ReplyDeleteGood luck and may your road going forward be smooth! Your blog was one of the first to influence my starting a blog. Will miss reading your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteIt's been fun, man. We'll definitely keep in touch, though. Maybe it's just optimism and it may be a few years down the road, but I have a feeling you'll be back. Just you wait ;)
ReplyDeleteKeep in touch, my friend!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you are calling it quits but I completely understand. Enjoy college - cards will wait!
ReplyDelete:-( I'm really going to miss this font, too.
